Fine dust is getting worse day by day. Now it is necessary to check rain and fine dust forecasts, and masks have become necessities like umbrellas. Wear a mask outdoors and an air purifier indoors. Various public institutions are increasing the air purifier supply rate, and air purifiers have also been supplied to military units.
According to the <2018 World Air Quality Report 2018>, Korea ranks second among OECD countries with the highest concentration of ultrafine dust. The days of 'very bad' which was 0 days also increased to 5 days, and the number of 'bad' days increased by about 16%.
And suddenly air purifiers have reached the position of ‘survival appliances’, not essential appliances. The yellow dust and fine dust, worried only in the spring, soon passed through the autumn and worried about the four seasons. What kind of air purifier should we buy to get out of the worry of the fine dust?
If you look for an air purifier, you will find that there are more types of air cleaners. As the fine dust index rose, air cleaners were also being launched. I have to buy the right one for me but it's not easy to pick.
Lee Wang found a product that is less expensive. It was burdensome to buy a high price air cleaner. There was also no need for a large-capacity air cleaner. However, it would be convenient to have IoT functions installed.
In summary, QIX QINICARE AIRQ-100 was noticeable.
■ Round white body, clean design
When you open QNICARE AIRQ-100, you will be surprised by the smaller than you may expect. It was about the height of a PC case. Overall, this rounded-shape design is likable for all.
The body is matte white with an air inlet at the front and an outlet at the top. The model name ‘QNICARE’ is attached on the front side with chrome-plated to give a neat impression. The upper part was glossy black plastic, so it was necessary to be careful as it could get fingerprints or scratches when being used.
The upper control panel has 1 to 3 levels and a sleep mode, with timers ranging from 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, and 8 hours. In addition, there was a Wi-Fi button and an operation lock button for connecting to Wi-Fi, which is locked as soon as the lock button was pressed but it holds down for 5 seconds.
The handles are on the left and right, and the sensor is on the inside of the right handle. The sensor was inside, so there was an element to accumulate dust. If it was used for a long time, it seemed to need to be managed inside the handle. If dust accumulates on the sensor, it is difficult to use the automatic function smoothly.
The handle enters four fingers and one finger a little bit. However, the weight is light and once installed, it does not seem to matter much because it does not require much movement.
Overall, it looked neat as if it had shrunk the upper model AIRQ-300. It was made by QIX and it looked like a PC product.
■ HEPA filter should be enough to catch the ultra-fine dust.
AIRQ-100 is a composite filter, prefilter (primary filter) and activated carbon deodorization filter + HEPA filter H13 (secondary filter). Hepa filter H13 means that the HEPA rating is Class 13 and the HEPA rating is defined by the US Department of Energy (DOE) standard. DOE standards include semi-heap filters E11 and E12, HEPA filters H13 and H14, and wool filters U15 and U16.
Among them, the H13 HEPA filter can remove more than 99.7% of 0.3 micrometers (μm) of fine dust. The ultrafine dust of 2.5μm is removed as well as the ultrafine dust of 1.0μm.
The key to air purifier performance is the filter and motor. The better you use the filter, the better the air-cleaning effect, but proportionately increases the noise and power consumption of the motor. Therefore, in general households, the HEPA filter's co-purifier is preferred, and in the case of a wool filter, it is used in the sterilization chamber.
Prefilters for air cleaners can be washed with water, but composite filters should be purchased at the end of their service life. The life of the composite filter is usually 1,500 hours, which can be used for about half a year based on 8 hours of use per day. However, the error range occurs depending on the usage environment, and the Qunicare AIRQ-100 has an LED indicating the filter replacement time so that the filter replacement time can be easily identified.
As you can see in the picture, the air cleaner cannot be used immediately after purchase. The filter must be checked immediately after purchase and the plastic packaging of the composite filter removed. Many people use it for years without removing the vinyl. There are many reviews on the Internet that use vinyl with no filters. If you do not want to become a 'bone skull purifier of Ambassador Wonhyo', you need to be aware of this on your first purchase.
Besides, in dry seasons such as autumn, humidifiers and air cleaners are often used together. You should keep both products as far away as possible. Be aware that moisture in the humidifier can shorten the life of your air purifier filter.
After looking at the filters, let's look at CADR.
The most important factors in choosing an air purifier are the filters and motors. The combined index is the clean air delivery rate (CDR). It describes how fast and wide air cleaners provide clean air. QNICARE AIRQ-100 shows CDR of 205.1m³ per hour.
Besides, the sensor is also an important element of the air cleaner. In many cases, the air purifier is automatically placed when it is used. If the sensor is weak or unstable, it is difficult to use the automatic function. For example, if the concentration detected by the sensor is lower than the actual dust concentration, the air cleaner may be operated in one stage.
The AIRQ-100 is equipped with a PM 1.0 sensor. PM 1.0 means ultra-fine dust. The AIRQ-100 detects ultra-fine dust of 1.0 μm size through a PM 1.0 sensor. The fine dust, such as yellow dust, is visible to the naked eye, so it detects even tenths of smaller particles and cleans them through a filter.
Besides, the color of the LED changes according to the fine dust value. Green at 1-100, 101-200 are yellow, and 201-500 are red. If you use the automatic mode, the fine dust level step adjustment is automatically performed. Also, the sleep mode turns off the LED on the control panel. This is a must for users who are sensitive to bed.
■ What is the actual performance of Qunicare AIRQ-100?
We tested the actual performance of QNICARE AIRQ-100 with the Huma Eye fine dust meter. The space tested was 33.05㎡, and the distance between the AIRQ-100 and the fine dust detector was about 2m away. The video took about 15 minutes and edited at 5x speed.
As a result of the test, the fine dust index was lowered for 8 minutes and it was confirmed that it stabilized after 8 minutes. At the outlet, both PM 10 and PM 2.5 recorded zero.
■ Wi-Fi function that can control air purifier outside the home dd
One of the key features of the AIRQ-100 is its IoT capabilities. Of course, you can use auto mode, speed control, sleep mode and timer function with the included remote controller. However, if you use the IoT function through Wi-Fi, you can control the AIRQ-100 without using a remote phone.
To use the IoT function, a 2.4GHz wireless router must be at home. The app is Smart Life, which can be installed from both Android and iOS stores. Then follow the instruction manual.

The Wi-Fi function, like the remote control, also has an automatic mode, speed control, sleep mode, and timer. However, the Wi-Fi function has added a schedule function. The schedule function is a function that literally schedules the air purifier. Unlike the timer of the air purifier, the on / off can be arbitrarily modified.
To manage the schedule, tap the Schedule button on the bottom right of the app, and then tap Add timing to display a screen with the time and repetition, words, execution notifications, and switches. Here you can set the time and day repetition for your lifestyle and save it.
This is an excellent feature for users who want to turn on the air purifier all the time, but for the cost of maintenance.
■ There is now one era of dual air purifiers
Now air purifier is also the age of dual. After purchasing air cleaners, more and more consumers purchase sub air cleaners for air quality. The environment to maximize air purification capacity is also a space that uses more air cleaner than one big air cleaner. It is much more efficient to run two 10-balance air cleaners on both sides than to run a 20-balance air cleaner in a 66.11m² space.
Over the years, more and more air purifiers are expected to be released. It will continue as long as fine dust does not disappear. The more consumers have to make smart and reasonable choices. The AIRQ-100 is one of many options.
The biggest advantage of AIRQ-100 is that there is no burden on purchasing. Despite its low price, the Wi-Fi function enhances the user's convenience, while the PM 1.0 sensor and HEPA13 filter keep the air-purifying capability intact.
It is a product that can be placed without any burden on single-person households and consumers of multi-person households who want to purchase one more with the main air purifier.
